Montana No Kid Hungry® Summer Meals Photo Contest

ELIGIBILITY:

The Montana No Kid Hungry® Photo Contest (“Photo Contest”) is open to all Montana SFSP sponsors and site supervisors.  Photos submitted for consideration must comply with school district or organization photo policies, and must be submitted with the knowledge and permission of the photographer, as well as any and all subjects appearing in the images submitted.  In the case of any photographer or subject under the age of 18, the knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian of any and all minors involved must be obtained.

SPONSOR:

The Photo Contest is sponsored by Montana No Kid Hungry®, located on the 3rd Floor of 2401 Colonial Dr., Helena, MT 59601 (“Sponsor”) through a partnership with the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services and the Office of Governor Steve Bullock.

SUBMISSION PERIODS:

The Photo Contest will take place between July 10th, 2017 and August 18th, 2017. The submission period will open at 12:00am MST on Monday, July 10th, 2017 and will end at 11:59pm MST on Friday, August 18th, 2017.  Entries submitted before or after the submission deadline will not be eligible. Timestamps on emails received through Sponsor’s Outlook email account will be the official time-keeping device for the Photo Contest.

HOW TO ENTER:

Submissions must be sent via email through the ShortStack Landing Page to Danielle, Montana No Kid Hungry® Summer Meal Program and Nutrition Education Coordinator, at DAnderson3@mt.gov. You may enter an unlimited number of times; however you are not permitted to use an agency or automated system to enter.  Sponsor has sole authority to reject any entries that do not comply with these Official Rules.  By entering, you indicate your unconditional agreement to, and acceptance of, these Official Rules and the Sponsor’s determinations, which are final and binding.  You will not be eligible to receive a prize unless you comply with all of the requirements stated in these Official Rules.

WHAT TO ENTER:

Montana No Kid Hungry® is dedicated to fighting childhood hunger throughout the state through the implementation of a three-pronged approach: 1). improving food access by increasing participation in school breakfast, summer meal, and afterschool meal programs; 2). developing and improving resources for families, providing new fun and interactive ways to deliver nutrition education through cooking classes and teaching smart shopping skills, and; 3). raising awareness through increasing the visibility of this important issue, getting people involved, and engaging youth.

Eligible photos should focus on at least one of the two photo categories: food and/or fun.

Eligible photos should prominently depict:

FOOD - Healthy food served at your summer meal program that has been prepared by food service staff.  This can include, but is not strictly limited to, photos that depict kids consuming summer meals, staff carrying out fun taste tests, food service personnel preparing meals, salad bars, etc. Bonus points if you submit a recipe that can be shared!

FUN – Fun, kid-approved activities that are successful at your summer programs. Include the title of the activity, the materials needed, and any directions/rules.

To ensure submissions are eligible for the Photo Contest, please submit files no larger than 3MB at the time of entry.  Entries may originate in any format – including, but not limited to, digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints – as long as they are submitted electronically in a .jpg, .gif, or .png format.  Photo collage submissions are acceptable, provided the images depicted in the collage adhere to all of the previously stated requirements, and the multi-image collage is entered as a single submission.

If you choose to include people as subjects of your photo submission(s), you are responsible for obtaining permission from the photographer and all subjects depicted, or from the parent or legal guardian of any and all photographers and subjects under the age of 18.  You must be able to provide documentation of those releases to Montana No Kid Hungry® at the time your photo entry is submitted.

Entries should include caption details if at all possible.  The following caption information should be provided:

Name of Summer Site (ex: Memorial Park, Northgate Housing, etc.)
Summer Meal Service Program sponsor (ex: Great Falls Public Schools, Kay's Kids, etc.)
City
Brief caption of subject matter (ex: kids enjoying salads made from the lettuce they harvested from their school garden, playing with water balloons on our water play day, kids learning how milk is processed from a local dairy farmer, voting on a new, healthier pizza recipe, etc.) Include details that can be shared with other sponsors such as recipes for a healthy food item or how to play a fun game.

Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as the individual submitting the photo maintains the right to grant the Sponsor a license (see "Your Rights" below). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to Montana No Kid Hungry® upon request.

The following submissions are ineligible:

  • Photos that violate or infringe upon the rights of any other individual, including but not limited to copyright infringement
  • Photos that contain vulgar, profane, sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content as determined by the Sponsor
  • Images that involve putting any individual or animal in harm’s way
  • Images taken more than one year prior to the beginning date of the Photo Contest (July 10th, 2017)

Helpful Tips:  Avoid submitting images that depict partially consumed foods, dirty cutlery, plates, bowls, etc.  The most prominent subject appearing in the image should be the healthy meal and/or fun activity for the summer meal program.  Be creative, and consider all of the different ways that you can positively portray the summer meal program.

JUDGING:

Photo submissions will be judged based on originality, composition, subject matter, thematic relevance, overall impact, and artistic merit.  Winners of the Photo Contest will be determined by a panel of judges (“Panel”), which will have sole authority in reviewing submissions and making its determinations.  All judging decisions are final.  Please do not contact the Sponsor about the status of entries or judging.  The Sponsor will notify any winners via the contact information provided at the time of the submission’s entry.  The Panel will evaluate all valid entries and pick the following winners:

Food: Two (2) winners, including one (1) first prize and one (1) runner-up

Fun: Two (2) winners, including one (1) first prize and one (1) runner-up
